Andrew J. DiPietro, 85, mason, builder

Andrew J. “Andy” DiPietro of 89 West Lane, a retired mason and homebuilder, died on Thursday evening, Feb. 15, at Norwalk Hospital. He was 85 years old and was the husband of Filomena Schettino DiPietro.
Mr. DiPietro was born in South Norwalk, on Dec. 7, 1915, a son of the late Carlo and Josephine Valiante DiPietro. He attended Norwalk schools and served five years in the U.S. Army during World War II, completing his service as a staff sergeant.
A longtime New Canaan resident, Mr. DiPietro was a brick mason by trade and a contractor who built custom homes in New Canaan as well as in Norwalk.
The DiPietros moved to Ridgefield 21 years ago, and Mr. DiPietro, an avid golfer, often played at Dlhy Ridge Golf Course here.
“He loved people,” said his wife, who added that her husband enjoyed the companionship and conversation with people of all ages — from younger golfing partners to his childlren and grandchildren. “He loved all kids,” she said.
He also enjoyed animals, particularly dogs.
For many years, the DiPietros wintered at Satellite Beach, near Melbourne, Fla., where Mr. DiPietro was able to play golf almost daily.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Church.
Besides his wife of 58 years, he is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Enamait of Waterford, formerly of Ridgefield; a brother, Charles DiPietro of Norwalk; a sister, Paula DeBone of Norwalk; two granddaughters, Alexis Vitti and Adrienne Vitti, both of Ridgefield; two grandsons, Drew Enamait of Middletown, and Ross Enamait of Waterford, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A daughter, Nancy Vitti of Ridgefield, died Jan. 28. Three brothers, Alfred DiPietro, Pasquale DiPietro and Joseph DiPietro, also died before him.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, Feb. 19, in St. Mary’s Church.
Burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
The Kane Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
