Lucy Lynch Park, 71, avid gardener
Lucy Lynch Park, 71, a 50-year resident of the Main Line, Villanova, Pa., died of cancer on Jan. 17,
2002, at Bryn Mawr Terrace Convalescent Center.
She was the widow of Laird U. Park Jr., who died last year. They were married 49 years earlier at St. Stephens Church.
Mrs. Park was born in New York City and later raised in Ridgefield. She was the daughter of the late Emeline Starr Lynch Carter and the late John Hampton Lynch Jr. whose West Mountain estate is now the site of the Notre Dame Novitiate and Ridgefield Academy.
She attended St. Timothys School and graduated with a degree in history from Vassar College. She was passionate about both preservation and conservation and was very active in The Powel House and Landmarks Society in Philadelphia, and an active member of her garden club, The Gardeners, and was a third generation member of The Garden Club of America.
When raising her children she taught Sunday school at The Church of the Redeemer, was active in the Junior League and Meals on Wheels and studied botany at The Barnes Foundation. She also volunteered at The Shipley School, The Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Flower and Harvest Shows.
She also enjoyed traveling with her husband and summers on Cape Cod. She was a member of The Merion Cricket Club and The Chatham Beach and Tennis Club.
Mrs. Park is survived by her four daughters: Lucy Park Horn, Irene Crawford Park, Jennifer Park Dembinski and Caroline Park Veit; her sister Emeline L. Wittman of Ridgefield and brother, John H. Lynch III of Kentfield, Calif.; her grandchildren Stephanie P. Horn, Alexander L. Horn, Leah M. Dembinski, Margaret C. Dembinski, Katherine P. Dembinski and Roger F. Veit, Jr.; nieces Cynthia E. Wittman, Meg S. Wittman, Lindsay L. Lytle, and nephews Kevin L. Wittman, Andrew Wittman and John H. Lynch IV. She was predeceased by her nephew Andrew Lynch.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 26, at Church of the Redeemer, 250 Pennswood Road, Bryn Mawr, PA 19010.
